Welcome to our final month of the school year; it certainly has gone by quickly. Summer vacation will be here before we know it. I am sure the students are all very sad at the prospect of summer vacation! Before that though, the month of May is very busy. Please read your newsletter closely.
We will travel to the Bad Axe City Park on Friday, May 1 for our annual field day activities. Students will need to wear their school shirts and bring a sack lunch. We will leave school at 11:00, have lunch in the park by the library, and then proceed to the park for our activities. We will be done with our field day activities at 2:30. If you would like to pick your kids up in Bad Axe at that time, please let me know in advance. Otherwise, we will ride the bus back to school for our normal dismissal time.
On Monday, May 4, eighth grade students and parents are asked to attend a meeting about our Mackinac Island trip. The meeting will be held at Big Burning School at 7:00 p.m. If you are unable to attend the meeting, please let me know in advance so I can get some paperwork sent home to you.
On Wednesday, May 6 our 7th and 8th grade students will need to be at school by 7:30 so we can leave for Harbor Beach for our trip on the Appledore, a Great Lakes research vessel. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to take part in some experiments on Lake Huron. We will return to school around 11:15 to finish our day.
Our spring concert and art show will be held on Thursday, May 7. While I do not have all the details yet, the concert/art show will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Bad Axe High School. I will send home more information as soon as it becomes available.
Our annual group softball game for grades 4 – 8 and Octagon Barn trip for grades 1 – 3 will be held on Friday, May 8. The softball game will take place at the Bad Axe City Park. All students will be back to school for normal dismissal time; however, if you would like to pick up your 4th – 8th grade student at the park, you may do so at 2:45.
The 8th grade students will leave for Mackinac Island on Sunday, May 17. A separate itinerary will be handed out at the meeting on May 4.
School will be dismissed at 11:00 on Thursday, May 21. A graduation luncheon will take place at the Franklin Inn at 11:30 for 8th grade students and their parents. Other family members may attend; however, they are responsible for their luncheon bill. More information will follow. Graduation will take place at 1:30 at the Huron Area Technical Center.
Our final day of school is Friday, May 22. Students are dismissed at noon; the family picnic begins at noon.
