Dear Parents:

Attached is your May calendar.  Please read this newsletter carefully since May is a very busy month.  Can you believe that the school year is already coming to an end?  I hope you enjoy your summer.

On Friday, May 2, we will travel to Bad Axe City Park for our annual field day activities.  Before that, however, we are going to the tech center to practice for the spring musical.  Since we will be going from one place to another, I have arranged for the TAT bus to transport us.

On Monday, May 5, eighth grade students and a parent need to attend a Mackinac Island meeting at Verona Mills School.  The meeting will begin at 7:00.  Mrs. Cregeur will pass our itineraries, insurance forms, and other relevant information.  Please make sure your student and a parent are in attendance.

The spring concert and art show will be held on Thursday, May 8 at Bad Axe High School.  Mrs. Klee will be sending home information about the concert later this week.

On Friday, May 9, we will again travel to the park for a group softball.  The kindergarten, first, and second grade students will go the Octagon Barn in the afternoon.  I will need parent drivers to help take the third through eighth grade students to the park.  I would also like a parent to drive students to the Octagon Barn along with Mrs. Ruth.

The eighth grade students will leave for Mackinac Island on Sunday, May 18 and return in the evening of Monday, May 19.  They are not marked absent from school on Monday since they are on a school sponsored field trip.

As you may know the students have been required to read Accelerated Reader books and take quizzes on those books.  I told the students at the beginning of the year that those who met their AR goal each month would be rewarded with a special trip at the end of the school year.  Now it is time for me to make that promise a reality.  On Tuesday, May 20, I (along with some parent drivers) will be taking those students who reached their goal to a Great Lakes Loons game in Midland.  There are three students who have not yet reached their goal.  We are working hard to help them reach the required number of AR points.  Although I will not name those students here, you may want to ask your child(ren) if he/she has reached his/her AR goal.  If not, encourage them to be reading at home.  It cannot all be accomplished at school.  I truly do not want to leave any student behind on this trip, but they all knew the result of not reading AR books.  I will send home more information about the Loons’ game later.

Students will be dismissed at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 22.  Eighth grade students and their families will meet at the Franklin Inn at 11:30 for lunch.  Graduation will begin at 1:30 at the tech center.

Our last day of school will be on Friday, May 23.  The students will be dismissed at noon, at which time the family picnic will begin.  As in the past, families are asked to bring a dish to pass for the picnic.  The school provides place settings and beverages.  The students are looking forward to our annual parents v. students’ softball game.  Be sure to bring your baseball glove for this annual competition.

If you have any questions about any activities for the month or if you would like to volunteer to drive for any event, please feel free to call me at school or at home in the evening.
